The Shelter Last Week

What's Been Happening

Greetings friends of the Sheltering Tree! Our office was open on Wednesday as usual, and the cold weather shelter was open Thursday through Monday this week! It's  been a busy week for us.  On Wednesday we  provided security deposits for two  gentlemen so that they could move into apartments and get out of homelessness. Both gentlemen were vetted through Flagler County Human Services, so we know that once the security deposit was paid they can continue to sustain their housing rentals on their own. Talk about success!

Teams that served at the cold weather shelter include: Santa Maria Del Mar Church, Compassionate Ministries of Palm Coast, Covenant Closing, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Ebony Society, Seventh Day Adventists, Palm Coast United Methodist Church, and the Sludgehammers! Talk about a community effort!!

Our teams are wonderful. They know we can't do it without them. And that's not even mentioning our Overnighters.  Truly, we can not open without knowing who will stay up all night and provide safety and security for our guests. Overnighters are on duty from 10 PM until 6 AM when the breakfast team arrives. Many of our Overnighters have been faithful volunteers for 9 years. We can't say enough about how much this means to the operation of the only cold weather  shelter in Flagler County.

We started the week with  12 guests on Thursday evening, and 19 guests on Sunday night! We are thrilled that people who have no shelter are hearing about us, and coming to a warm and welcoming place when the temperature is forecasted to be cold, forty degrees or less. We do pick up in Palm Coast near the library. Call the shelter at (386) 437-3258, ext. 105 to leave a message if you need a ride to our location at the First United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine St.  We can arrange pick up in the Hammock, or Flagler Beach also.
